Annuncio del Congresso della Federazione Nord-Atlantica per un Presbiterato Cattolico Rinnovato a Vienna, Austria - 6/9 novembre 2008

A seguito della riunione del Comitato Esecutivo che si è tenuta nell’Abbazia Benedettina di Douai, Inghilterra alla fine dello scorso novembre, la Federazione Nord-Atlantica per un Presbiterato Cattolico Rinnovato svolgerà il suo prossimo Congresso a Vienna nel novembre 2008.

Fondata a Wiesbaden, Germania nell’agosto del 2003, la Federazione Nord-Atlantica per un Presbiterato Cattolico Rinnovato, raggruppa associazioni di preti cattolici sposati, ivi incluse Corpus in Canada, Corpus USA, e gruppi provenienti dall’Austria, Belgio, Repubblica Ceca, Ungheria, India, Irlanda e Paesi Bassi.

La Federazione ritiene che un rinnovamento radicale del ministero presbiterale sia necessario, un rinnovamento che vada oltre la semplice eliminazione del celibato obbligatorio per il clero e la riammissione al ministero dei preti sposati. Per questa ragione, di recente, abbiamo accolto al nostro interno la Conferenza Statunitense per l’Ordinazione delle Donne.

Il Congresso di Vienna si terrà in un Centro Congressi nell’area viennese dal 6 al 9 novembre 2008. Il tema del Congresso e "Un futuro per il Popolo di Dio - un servizio che risponda ai bisogni". Sono stati invitati ad intervenire personaggi di spicco che guideranno il tema dell’assemblea.

Per riconoscere un maggior ruolo dei laici nei ministeri della chiesa cattlica e la necessità primaria di sanare le ingiustizie del celibato obbligatorio, così come l’esclusione delle donne dal ministero, la NAF ritiene si debbano sviluppare nuove forme di ministero ordinato in cui non abbiano spazio né il clericalismo, né il patriarcato, né ogni forma di abuso di potere.

Il Comitato Esecutivo di NAF si incontrerà di nuovo a Ottawa a maggio 2008 per continuare a pianificare il congresso di Vienna.

2) INVITO DA PARTE DEL COMITATO ESECUTIVO DELLA FEDERAZIONE NORD-ATLANTICA PER UN PRESBITERATO CATTOLICO RINNOVATO

Gentile lettore,

non è certo cosa nuova il fatto che oggi nella chiesa cattolica romana esista una profonda crisi nel ministero. Da tutto il mondo, a partire dagli Stati Uniti, attraverso l’Europa fino all’Australia, giungono voci della crescente mancanza di preti e di chierici in genere. Questa mancanza è dovuta a svariate cause: i preti che lasciano, i giovani che non sembrano intenzionati a diventare preti (ad esempio in Irlanda sette degli otto seminari sono stati chiusi), e l’età sempre maggiore dei preti rimasti in esercizio.

I vescovi e le altre autorità ecclesiastiche ammettono la gravità della situazione e cercano di sanarla. Prima di tutto chiedono costanti preghiere per le nuove vocazioni e poi ricorrono a misure tipo l’accorpamento delle parrocchie o la chiusura di alcune, tagliando drasticamente il numero di celebrazioni eucaristiche disponibili (in Francia, la metà delle parrocchie non hanno un prete assegnato). Con tali provvedimenti di emergenza la chiesa spera di poter sopravvivere alla crisi della società moderna senza modificare la tradizione del presbiterato celibe ed esclusivamente maschile.

Questo è un atteggiamento che affronta il problema alla rovescia, non tiene in considerazione che i tempi sono davvero cambiati. Nello scorso secolo il Popolo di Dio è cresciuto ed è molto più consapevole. Pensiamo al movimento internazionale "Noi Siamo Chiesa", pensiamo al documento distribuito di recente dai Monaci Domenicani dal titolo "Chiesa e Ministero". Si preferisce una chiesa dal basso piuttosto che una dall’alto.

In linea con questi sviluppi, che possono essere certamente considerati un passo indispensabile verso un cristianesimo adulto, la NAF sta organizzando un Congresso Internazionale per discutere i problemi del ministero ecclesiastico.

Il Congresso si terrà dal 6 al 9 novembre 2008 a Vienna, la capitale austriaca. Il titolo del Congresso è: "Il futuro del Popolo di Dio - un servizio che risponda ai bisogni". Sono stati invitati teologi accreditati che faciliteranno i gruppi di discussione; la lingua del congresso sarà l’inglese e verrà fornito un servizio di traduzione simultanea.

1) Announcement of the Congress of the North Atlantic Federation for a Renwed Catholic Priesthood in Vienna, Austria on November 6-9, 2008

Following an Executive Meeting held at the Benedictine Abbey in Douai, England, in late November 2007, the North Atlantic Federation for a Renewed Catholic Priesthood announced that the Federation will hold Congress in Vienna, Austria in November 2008.

Founded at a meeting in Wiesbaden, Germany in August 2003, the North Atlantic Federation for a Renewed Catholic Priesthood is a grouping of married Catholic priests including Corpus (National Capital Region) in Canada, CORPUS U.S.A., and groups in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Ireland and the Netherlands.

The Federation believes that a radical renewal of the ministerial priesthood is needed which goes far beyond the abandonment of mandatory celibacy for the clergy and the re-admission to public ministry of married priests. For this reason it has recently welcomed into membership the U.S. Women’s Ordination Conference.

The Congress planned for Vienna will take place at a Convention site in that city from November 6 to 9, 2008. The theme of the Congress is "A Future for God’s People - Service Responding to Needs". A number of notable speakers are being invited to address the delegates.

Recognizing the growth in lay ministries in the Catholic Church and the urgent need to right the injustices of mandatory celibacy and the exclusion of women from ordained ministry, the NAF believes that new forms of ordained ministry must be developed, where clericalism, patriarchy and power abuse have no place.

The NAF Executive will meet again in Ottawa in May of 2008 to continue planning for the Vienna Congress.

Dear Reader,

It cannot be new for you when we say that today, in the Roman Catholic Church, there is a deep crisis as far as ministry is concerned. From all over the world, from the United States via Europe to Australia voices are heard complaining of the growing lack of priests and other Church ministers. This shortage is owing to various causes: priests leaving the priesthood, dramatic decrease of the numbers of youngsters willing to become a priest (hence in Ireland in the past years for example seven out of eight seminaries had to be closed), aging and death of the remaining group of priests.

The bishops and other Church authorities admit the seriousness of the situation and try to make the tide turn. They first constantly ask to pray for new vocations, and secondly take measures such as combining parishes and often closing of churches, cutting down the number of Eucharists, uniting several parishes under one priest (in France, half of all parishes do not have a resident parish priest any longer). With this kind of emergency measures the leaders hope their Church may survive in today’s modern society, without deviating from the tradition of a sacramental, exclusively male and celibate priesthood.

This is a top-down attitude, which doesnot take in account that times have fundamentally changed. In the last century, the People of God, the faithful has come of age and utters its vision more and more. Think of the international movement ’We Are Church’, think of the recently published and internationally distributed brochure of the Dutch Domincan Fathers on ’Church and Ministry’. From ’top-down’ now a ’bottom-up’ is preferred.

In line with this development, which may be seen as a new step in growth to Christian adulthood, the North Atlantic Federation for a Renewed Catholic Priesthood is organising an international Congress to discuss the above-mentioned problems in Church ministry.

This Congress will be held from November 6th to 9th 2008 in the Austrian capital Vienna. The title and topic of this Congress is: "A Future for Gods People - Service Responding to Needs". Famous theolo-gians have been invited for the keynote speeches; workshops and group discussions are planned; the congress language is English, simultaneaous translation will be provided.
