Venerdì, 18 aprile, Papa Benedetto XVI parlerà alle Nazioni Unite, mentre il Vaticano continua a violare la Carta di Protezione dei Diritti del Fanciullo, di cui il Vaticano è firmatario.

Il fenomeno diffuse degli abusi sessuali sui bambini e la copertura effettuata dagli ufficiali ecclesiastici pone un tema in termini globale sui diritti umani dei bambini. Solo negli Stati Uniti, circa 6.000 chierici delinquenti sono stati riconosciuti dagli ufficiali ecclesiastici come violentatori di bambini. Se questa cifra fosse riscontrata a livello mondiale, significherebbe che circa 20.000 preti avrebbero compiuto abusi sessuali sull'intero pianeta.

In una lettera inviata ai responsabili delle Nazioni Unite oggi, i capi di SNAP chiedono alle Nazioni Unite di dare vita ad una indagine su larga scala per i crimini sessuali compiuti ai danni di minori dal clero cattolico, dai vescovi e dagli ufficiali ecclesiastici in tutto il mondo.

Le vittime sono consapevoli che Papa Benedetto, che sicuramente bacchetterà le nazioni per le violazioni dei diritti umani, amministra una istituzione mondiale in cui le violazioni dei diritti umani dei bambini sono cosa quotidiana, storica e attuale.

Sotto la sua guida in Vaticano per 27 anni – ora come Papa, prima come Capo della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede – migliaia di preti predatori hanno violentato, sodomizzato e sessualmente brutalizzato migliaia di bambini.

Un numero enorme di ufficiali ecclesiastici che hanno mantenuto il silenzio sui crimini – o addirittura li hanno nascosti – non hanno mai perso la propria posizione o ricevuto ammonizioni dal Papa.

Le autorità giudiziarie nazionali ed internazionali hanno ricevuto poca, se non nulla, cooperazione da parte degli ufficiali ecclesiastici nella gestione dei casi di abusi sessuali su minori compiuti dal clero, o sono stati avvisati quando gli alti prelati decidevano di trasferire i pedofili oltre i confini internazionali.

WHY

On Friday, April 18, Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to speak before the United Nations yet the Vatican continues to violate a major UN Charter on the Protection of the Rights of Children, of which the Vatican is a signatory.

The widespread sexual abuse of children and the cover up of child sex crimes by church officials poses a major global human rights threat to children. In the U.S. alone, nearly 6,000 sex offender clergy have been acknowledged by church officials to have sexually assaulted children. If this number holds worldwide, there are likely 20,000 sex offender clerics around the globe.

In a letter being sent to UN officials today, leaders of SNAP are calling on the United Nations to launch a full-scale, global investigation into the commission and cover up of sex crimes against children by Catholic clergy, bishops and church officials around the world.

Victims are concerned that Pope Benedict, who will undoubtedly chastise nations this week for human rights violations, is administering a world wide institution in which human rights violations against children are an historic, ongoing and daily occurrence.

Under his leadership in the Vatican for the last 27 years - as Pope and formerly as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith - thousands of predator priests have raped, sodomized and sexually brutalized thousands of children.

Countless church officials who kept silent about the crimes - or actively concealed them - have neither lost their jobs or faced reprimand by the Pope.

National and international criminal authorities have had little, if any, cooperation from church officials in stemming the tide of child sex crimes by clerics, or have been notified when church officials transfer known pedophiles across international boundaries.
